Fest of Fests is organizing a film workshop for teenagers, combining cinema and debate.

The workshop merges film analysis, film making and debate contest. The participants will make a short film and present a debate contest in front of an audience.

The aim of the workshop is to develop critical thinking and debate skills using film language.

The workshop’s duration is three weekends, and will take place on 24 & 25 February, 2, 3, 9 & 10 March 2024.

There will be in depth analysis of three movies – Whiplash (2014), Do the Right Thing (1989) and Green Book (2018). The students will attempt to find the moral dilemmas in each movie and understand the characters by reconstructing part of the movie on camera and improvising.

Additionally, the students will watch videos of renowned professionals, expressing their views over the matters that are addressed in those three films, based on their life and work experience.  

Finally, there will be three debates among the students, two preparatory and the final contest on themes taken from the three movies.

The workshop will include:

Ι. Film analysis

ΙΙ. Debate Contest

ΙΙΙ. Teaming teenagers of different backgrounds and ages

IV. Use of unfamiliar space and

V. Filmmaking, where film analysis and dramaturgy are implemented.

The workshop is an action of the program “International Network of Youth Film Festivals”, an initiative of Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, implemented within the framework of the Act “Establishment and Promotion of International Institutions of Contemporary Culture in Attica” . The Act is co-funded by Greece and the European Union – European Regional Development Fund, within the framework of the Regional Operational Program “Attica” Partnership Agreement 2021-2027.
